"Marilyn" by John Bowes

"Marilyn embodies sophistication, traditional glamour and true beauty, which has defined her years in celebrity culture. She turns heads, and reminds people of those golden days that now seem long gone. She was perfect for catching the public's attention, and fits straight into the mould of my theme. Hopefully, she'll add a touch of joy and glamour to a city depressed with economics."

Biography of John Bowes

John Bowes became a member of BeLonG To Youth Services three years ago, and since then has been to the fore of most art projects they have created. Over the previous year he has facilitated many workshops, including ones with the B2 Sunday group in making costumes, banners and placards for Dublin Pride, and as one of the Art Directors of Ireland's 1st Gay Prom (which hit The Mansion House last October) he helped create one of the most successful events in the LGBT community in 2008.

His work is varied, from detailed sketches of anatomy, to fantasy based images and that of the work he has presented for the 12 Door Art project. On this work he says that "I like to create art that stops people in their tracks, which is what I aimed for with this particular painting. In a city so busy and hectic, sometimes people forget to pause and open their eyes to what's around them."
